One of the most best things in modern living is convenience, we can contact anyone at anytime, have news delivered to us via the the internet, and of course, gets food delivered to us by a few clicks and swipes via services like GrabFood.
But of course, modern convenience also has some downsides, one of which is the increasing use of plastic as an enable. Plastic, however, is also linked to climate change and environmental pollution in several ways, from air quality to ocean toxicity, plastic wastes contribute to ecosystem disruption.
Upcycling Workshop, officiated by Shaz Mukhtar, GrabFood social media manager
As the major player in food delivery business in the country, GrabFood is in a unique position to make an impact in reducing single-use plastic by working together with merchants & eaters to reduce the use of single-use plastics, starting with cutleries.
The first step GrabFood took is by introducing a toggle option in the app to allow customers to opt for single-use plastic cutlery. Next time you use GrabFood, please do not opt in for single-use plastic cutlery unless you are stranded somewhere and absolutely have to use them.
Getting it done with otherwise waste material
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE are the three major steps in saving our environment, in that order.
To send the message across, together with others, I was invited to participated at an upcycling workshop conducted by GrabFood in ME.REKA, a makerspace in Publika. ME.REKA is a space where you have access to tools and expertise in making whatever you have in mind – be it wood & metal working, 3D printing, and so forth.
getting busy with it
Our tools were hot glue, scissors, knife, spray paint, ropes, with material to be upcycled being plastic spoons and bottles.
By cutting the spoons and sticking them around cut up plastic bottles, we were able to make some pretty neat looking small vase. Check out some of them below, and of course, one made by yours truly. It was overall a pretty fun session and one that sent the message across pretty clearly.

So remember, for your next meal via GrabFood, please do not opt-in for single-use plastic cutlery and use those metal ones from your kitchen or office pantry. If your office doesn’t have cutlery, bring some metal ones to work.
For many of us who prefers a wide variety of food and sometimes just too busy or occupied to drive out for a sit-in-dining, the introduction of GrabFood has been a godsend. Day or night, just a few clicks away and we can have some of our favorite restaurants deliver their delicious meals right to the doorstep, how the world has changed for the better!

31% off myBurgerLab, yesss
I took the advantage and ordered two dishes from one of my favorite local brands – myPizzaLab and myBurgerLab, which worked out to be an excellent deal after the discounts.
Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang Burger via GrabFood
My pick for MyBurgerLab was their Nasi Lemak Ayam Rendang Burger, which comes in their signature bamboo charcoal buns, a general piece of rendang chicken with telur goyang, sambal, fried anchovies, pickled, and even a layer of peanut butter jam. Take note, this burger is only exclusively available if you order on GrabFood or via GrabPay in-store!
Definitely did not disappoint, it was rich, flavorful, and packs a punch.
Apam Baling Balik Pizza, one of a kind
Apam Baling Balik Pizza was the choice from myPizzaLab, a sister restaurant to myBurgerLab. The dish is a playful marriage between traditional pizza and Malaysia’s very own apam balik. Treat this as a dessert for sharing and you’d be delighted. The combination of sweetness and nutty flavor worked surprisingly well. The #ApamBalingBalikPizza too is exclusively available on GrabFood or via GrabPay in-store!
Remember, you have until 6th of October to take advantage of the HOTDEALS promo!

For those who haven’t been keeping up with what’s trending in 2018, well, now you can order food to be delivered via the GrabFood app. I in fact do use this service quite often since having to deal with driving out/parking/walking under the hot sun can get to be a bit of a chore especially during a busy work day.
As mentioned, the availability of choices on GrabFood now includes many of our favorite local restaurants food that we would have to sometimes line up under the hot sun to get just a few years ago. Now with just a few clicks, we get to consume these awesome dishes right at home, or in the office pantry.
Personally, I was very happy that Soong Kee’s Beef Noodle was voted onto the list and is now available on GrabFood app. I can have one of my favorite beef noodles come to me instead of me having to walk all the way from KLCC to Jalan Tun HS Lee for a bowl of this wholesome goodness.
The properly cooked mixed beef parts are done just right, together with the minced meat in it’s special sauce, and the firm, delicious homemade beef balls, are just perfect for lunch, especially since I don’t need to leave the house on a gloomy cold afternoon.
Soong Kee’s beef noodle, yums!
The GrabFood platform will continue to grow, and I can’t wait for more of our local favorites to get on board. If you’re new to GrabFood and want to discover new local delights, use the promo code – KYSPICKS. You’ll get RM 15 off with a minimum spend of RM 20, eligible for one use only.
