Axiata Cup is back! If you have been snoozing all these while, you’d know that this is the richest badminton championship in the world that showcases top talents from various countries.
Being a badminton fan myself, I think this is a positive development and certainly benefits our most beloved national sports. The cup offers USD $ 1,000,000 to the champion, and if I only started a bit younger… (after all Datuk Lee Chong Wei came from the same state as I do.. so.. )
While I (and many of you) might only be able to play badminton recreationally every week and stands no chance in winning that million buck prize money, there is something that we can still participate – Axiata Cup 2013’s “Up Your Game” Challenge!
What you do is very straight forward, simply showcase your passion for the game and upload a video and the most creative showmanship wins.
Check out my very short video below:
Pretty… unique and sweet isn’t it?
Well, it can basically be anything badminton related, with or without displaying skills. You can play badminton in the dark, smash the shuttle cock into the toilet bowl from 20 feet away, anything. Examples can be found on www.AxiataCup.tv. (this is also where you submit)
So put on your creative hat and start thinking, there are three winners in this contest.
Gold with cash prize of RM 5,000
Silver with cash prize of RM 3,000
Bronze with cash prize of RM 1,500
All three winners also exclusive VIP experience to attend the semi-final and finals of the event held in Kuala Lumpur on the 13th and 14th of April, 2013, (Good news for Indonesian readers: this Prize includes return flights from Jakarta, Indonesia to Kuala Lumpur for two (2) people for Indonesian winner!) and gifts from Axiata and sponsors of Axiata Cup 2013!
All submissions will be shortlisted and fans will get to vote for their favorite videos. And the video with highest voting points will be declared as the winner on the 9th of April 2013.
This contest opens from 18 February with submission closing by the 25th of March 2013. Upload your video at www.AxiataCup.tv!

Almost everyone in this badminton crazed country knows about Thomas Cup, Malaysian Open, and All England, but have you heard about Axiata Cup?
The Axiata Cup is a new regional badminton event created for the Axiata Group – one of Asia’s largest telecom companies, and most importantly, the biggest names in badminton in our country are in. That of course, includes world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei and also our top doubles pair in Kien Keat-Boon Heong.
The good news is, Malaysia is now through to the semi-finals and will duke it out against the Indonesian teams on 31st March to 1st April at Stadium Badminton Cheras.
31st March, 2pm: INA Rajawali vs MAL Leopards
1st April, 8pm: INA Garuda vs MAL Tigers
So go there and cheer for Team Malaysia!
If you get there before 4pm, be sure to check out “Gateminton” – where you can beat your opponent and get cash prizes. The more rounds you win, the more cash prizes you pick up.
