For a small island with limited access to fancy foreign cuisines, I was surprised that there’s indeed a Japanese Ramen place in Labuan by the name of Gohson The Black, as introduced by one of my colleagues during our visit there.
Situated at the heart of Labuan town, Gohson The Black, the restaurant has a decor that’s quite modern and offers a variety of Japanese food in addition to chicken ramen (halal, no pork served here). In fact, they even serve yakiniku (Japanese grilled meat) with Wagyu beef upstairs, albeit with pricing that seems to be a bit higher than most Klang Valley counterparts.
By the way, I suspect Gohson actually translate to some guy with the surname “Goh” & his “son” operating this business.
chicken ramen with luxurious broth
Anyway, we ordered their signature 2 x Torikotsu Ramen (RM 23.90 ea.), a plate of chicken gyoza (RM 12.00), and a Tsukimi Gyodon (RM 18.90) for the three of us.
The ramen were legit, with thick chicken broth, tender flavorful chicken chasu, and braised egg with yolk that’s still soft. It was also served with plenty of spring onion, fungus, and a big sheet of dried seaweed. Other than perhaps slightly on the saltier side and maybe too much broth, I was quite impressed.
The gyoza, on the other hand, was quite subpar and a bit dry for my liking, something that I don’t think I’ll be ordering again.
My colleague who ordered the Tsukimi Gyodon (beef bento) also reacted positively with her order, and it certainly looked legit. The beef slices were thin, well marinated, and that raw egg yolk certainly added to the smoothness when you stir it all together.
You can certainly do much worse for dinner at Labuan, Gohson The Black is a more than decent option in my book.

For some reason ramen is trendy again. I know a guy who went from tai chow to ramen cafe lol
kekeke: maybe he’s onto something, I guess it’s a lot easier to have chef who can make ramen than tai chow!
