Klang is forever associated with bak kut teh, and this space has certainly documented quite a few dozen of them. However, one can only have so much of it before seeking alternatives, which is sorta how we landed at Restoran Hong Wah during one of those work from home weekdays.
Hong Wah offers a selection of roast and bbq meat – including duck, roast pork, bbq pork, Chinese bbq sausage, and more. The restaurant is located at the side of Klang just before the river (if you come from KL/Shah Alam), with a pretty basic set up but one that is at least pretty hygienic and somewhat comfortable.
roast duck, roast pork, siu cheong, salted vege soup
For the two of us, we ordered their roast duck, roast pork, and bbq sausage as choices of meat. A couple bowls of dried vege soup came as a standard free side dish, we also asked for a salted spicy vege soup as well.
The roast duck was succulent and juicy, even if the taste could be just slightly stronger, it was still plenty decent. Roast pork did not disappoint, with texture just as good as some of the bests in Klang (which really has a very high standard for roast pork). The bbq sausage was average, but I’m a fan of bbq sausage so that worked for me.
Oh, as far as the salted spicy vege soup goes, don’t waste your time, the version at Hakka Peng Heong is about 10x better. Overall though, this is certainly a roast duck place worth visiting, especially for a change of pace if you find yourself in or around Klang area.
For PJ, try Sunrise roast duck.

Tried their duck couple of times. It’s drier than Gandhi feet.
J: hahaha, my experience slightly different from yours luckily.
Texture like gandhi’s feet but still ate a couple more times. I think J likes gandhi’s feet.
The Chai Boey doesn’t look appealing from its look also…..
PS: Your reader’s comment is funny, LOL
Choi Yen: hahaha yah, ppl are creative. đŸ˜€
uncle KY’s blog is listed under the foodpr0n subcategory, so also attracted readers from the foot fetish community too #hiak #hiak
kekeke: oiii misspelling alert!
I seldom order bbq sausage, maybe will give it a try soon. Do you know much is the price per duck?
CleverMunkey: Ahh I don’t remember, but whole duck is never cheap.
I love BBQ sausages…and of course, roast duck too. Not many places here that sell those.
One of the best roast in Klang and their service is super crazy fast too. KY, you should also check out Li Yuen Restaurant just around the area. Its also a traditional roast offering with better sausages and simple veges dipped in their special sauce.
william: yeah memang damn fast that’s definitely true! Been to Li Yuen, the siu yoke is so good but sell out so fast!
