If I have to pick only one word to describe our visit to Kay’s Steak & Lobster at USJ Heights, it’ll probably be opulence.
As the name suggests, Kay’s Steak and Lobster is a restaurant that has live lobster and quality red meat as their headliner. We were invited to sample three of their flagship dishes, and here’s how it went.
Kay’s Steak & Lobster, at Putra Heights
The restaurant actually has three outlets across Klang Valley – Putra Heights, Ampang, and Putrajaya. The Putra Heights location we visited is the largest (complete with a big private dining room) and carries a halal certificate.
Stepping in, the ambiance exudes class, with interior decoration that is very tastefully done, rivaling any five star hotels. You’d never have guessed this is at the outskirt of Klang Valley.
The menu (available at end of article) comes in one big sheet, compartmentalized with different categories of appetizers, soups, salad, sides, signature steaks, “the big boys”, live Atlantic lobster, mains, pasta, desserts, and various types of beverages. Quite an extensive selection despite being printed only on one paper.
our feast for the day at Kay’s steak & lobster
For our session, we had the 3 big claim of fame from Kay’s – the Lobster Thermidor (RM 42/100g), MB6/7 Wagyu Tomahawk (RM 900/kg), and Signature Beef Wellington (RM 299). For four pax, that’s actually quite a lot of food, but hey, we were really hungry!
Lobster Thermidor, Casey can see .. can’t eat!
Since Kay’s Steak and Lobster is a halal restaurant, the classic Lobster Thermidor sauce that was partly made with white wine is instead formulated with locally produced mozzarella, cheddar, and smoked paprika. The result was a sauce base that’s rich, creamy, and savory, complimenting the fresh lobster meat that’s cooked at just the right juicy consistency, beautiful dish.
MB6/7 Wagyu Tomahawk, the big boy
The big boy – Wagyu Tomahawk, is a visually very impressive dish, like a throw back to simpler, almost cavemen era. We had the chef gracefully carve the meat out of the bone right in front of us, a visual feast prior one that rewards the taste buds.
The dish was served with loaded mashed potato, garlic bread, a salad, and three different sauce. I really liked it with (I think) the chimichurri sauce, or just a bit of coarse salt. We finished the entire serving and was only disappointed not having a dog at home to chew on the remaining bone.
Signature Beef Wellington, requires pre-order
Then there’s perhaps the most famous English dish that lost to chicken tikka masala in the running for national dish of England – Beef Wellington. Tenderloin wrapped with puff pastry that’s crispy and buttery, with the meat that’s still oozing myoglobin, a superb execution.
I’ve only had Beef Wellington perhaps a handful of times, and this was ranked right up there in terms of satisfaction delivered.
Kane, KY, Jane, Jean, Casey we had a great day!
We were too full to be trying any desserts (which there’s 3 choices) by the end of the meal. A wonderful experience and a place that’s worth revisiting, but perhaps with a smaller order next time.

The tomahawk seemed like slightly overcooked, did it still remained succulent & tender?
I think I never tried Beef Wellington but watched many videos about Chef Gordon Ramsay’s version. LOL
Choi Yen: it wasn’t overcooked actually, thick bah so outside sure looks a bit darker. Hahah ya Gordon Ramsay certainly made this dish super famous.
