Roadside burger stalls is perhaps one of the most popular Malaysianised “Western Food” in the country, and just like how Chinese food in USA is almost unrecognizable from proper Chinese cuisine, Malaysian burger has it’s own identity that’s unique and well loved by its adopted country.
Jackson’s Burger, still going strong
Jackson’s Burger in Petaling Jaya is one of the oldest roadside burger stalls in the country, having been in operation for five decades now.
Situated in the relatively quiet area PJ Seksyen 14 (a couple minutes behind Digital Mall), the stall is an unassuming white van parked outside the operator’s house and runs from noon to 5pm everyday except Mondays. The two Chinese couple manning the van must be in their late 60s or 70s now, but you won’t know by the way they move.
every burger is made meticulously
We went for the classic beef burger with egg (also known as “special”), the p home made patty is thicker and juicier than the normal Ramly affair, and when there isn’t a crowd, you can also ask for caramalised onion.
The egg is also placed on top instead of wrapping around the patty, making it softer and less burnt. Other than that, it’s the usual sweet chili sauce and cucumber that completes the meal.
beef burger with egg, my favorite
I suggest devouring the burger on the spot to have the buns still crunchy and patty hot, it’s certainly worth the few ringgit asking price. A throw back to simpler days.

It’s amazing how certain dishes get their own unique twist when they’re adopted by a different country, just like Malaysian burgers. And Jackson’s Burger seems to have perfected that unique identity over the past five decades!
I love how you described the unassuming white van parked outside the operator’s house, it gives the place a charming and authentic vibe. 🚠And those two Chinese couple running the stall must be true burger masters by now! 🧓ðŸ»ðŸ§“🻠It’s fascinating how they’ve managed to keep their burger-making skills top-notch over the years.
Tekkaus: your points memang ngam!
The classic beef burger with egg sounds absolutely mouthwatering! 🤤 The homemade patty being thicker and juicier than the usual Ramly affair is definitely a game-changer. And placing the egg on top instead of wrapping it around the patty is a brilliant touch! 🳠It must give the burger a different texture and make it even more enjoyable.
I totally agree with you about devouring the burger on the spot. There’s nothing quite like having those crunchy buns and hot patty right there and then. It’s like taking a bite out of nostalgia and simpler times. 🌟
Tekkaus: yaa eating on the spot is the way!
Nothing beats the nostalgia of a roadside burger…..and some can be even tastier than those more expensive “atas” burgers! 😉
eatwhateatwhere: agree completely!
lol MJ burger??? Does it come with 50 year old meat between two 8 year old buns? oiiiiiiii!
kekeke: oiiiii hahahha.
I would agree that some roadside burgers taste a whole lot better than those franchise ones…and they’re a whole lot cheaper some more. A lot of vloggers sang praises of our Ramly burgers, nicer than all the rest. I seldom have burgers but I had one the other day and it was so good – would certainly go back for more.
suituapui: it’s a sin that everyone should allow themselves to have every once in a while ;D
The burger is made from home made patty, for both chicken & beef?
Choi Yen: I believe it is, but can’t verify. lol.
mystery meat is best, that is why western sausages taste so good lol #nomnom
kekeke: don’t want too many misteriess
One Chinese couple. If two Chinese couple, that means there are four people working at the white van. Anyway, why the need to mention Chinese? They are Malaysians, aren’t they? Or are they from China?
Kok: you’re absolutely right on the couple, I’ve failed my English teacher! As for the Chinese part, it is a bit of a rarity to have burger stall manned by Chinese Malaysian.
