A few weeks ago, having a bit of a craving for prawn mee while at Klang for some errands, we decided to finally check out Uncle Ooi Prawn Mee at Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang.
Uncle Ooi prawn mee at Bandar Bukit Raja
The menu here consists of about a dozen different main dishes, headlined with the Tiger Prawn Mee, signature prawn mee (soup/dry), and a few other variations of yee mee, loh mee, and curry noodle. Additionally, they also offer some side dishes such as roast pork, lohbak, fish cake, and so forth.
Since our aim was to satisfy the craving for prawn mee, we opted for their Tiger Prawn mee (RM 16.50) with an additional portion of fried shallots (RM 0.50)
those huge prawns are absolutely worth it
What came was a bowl of prawn mee with 2 rather large Tiger prawns, along with the usual ingredients you’d find in a proper bowl of Penang prawn mee – kangkung, bean sprouts, sliced pork, 1/2 an egg, fried shallots, and yes, even the “regular size” prawns, all in a broth that I thought was packed with a thick and flavorful prawn head/shell flavor. Certainly not disappointed.
The big prawns were certainly worth the additional RM 6.00 over the signature version, they were fresh, juicy, and tasted fantastic. Having asked for additional fried shallots was indeed a great choice too, it was an umami overload and I’ll gladly head back there again.
Perhaps I should try their loh mee next time, see if it’s better than Johnny’s at Subang 2 area.

Two huge prawns for RM16.50 only? That’s cheap!
suituapui: yess, great deal.
I can give my fried shallots to you, hehe đŸ˜›
Choi Yen: yes pls, thanks. hahaha.
From the little I can see of the prawn broth (since your photos focussed on the prawns, shallots and mee up close…lol), it looks really thick and kaw…and I’m sure with robust flavours too. RM6 for two prawns of that size is really worth it (I recently had an excellent prawn mee recently, which I’ve yet to blog about) and my additional big prawn costs RM7 for one). I certainly don’t mind paying RM0.50 for additional fried shallots too especially since they’re sendiri-fried punya.
eatwhateatwhere: yaaa, definitely worth paying for the prawns, and like y ous aid, for those shallots too. Plenty of work to prepare those kan!
wahhhhhhh
In the good ol days, they had the fried shallots in jars along with soy sauce and chilli. All you can eat bro. Now no more (perhaps no thanks to people like me LOL)
kekeke: u slowly wait la those good old days are gone!
