When in Perlis, try what the local eats, and that’s the mantra that brought us to Restoran Daging Bakar Nostalgia Hani 9 at Kuala Perlis.

Situated pretty close to the Northern most coastline of Peninsular Malaysia that is Kuala Perlis, Nostalgia Hani is one of the most popular local nasi daging bakar, or grilled beef with rice restaurants. If you’re traveling from Kangar East to the coast along Changlun – Kuala Perlis highway (if you can call that a highway…), it’ll be on your right just a few hundred meter from the ocean.

The choices here are simple, pick between daging bakar (grilled beef) or ayam bakar (grilled chicken) to go with yellow rice or white rice. You can opt to have them special for more meat (this what what we ordered), or stick to the lower protein version, I 100% suggest to go special.

The version you see here is daging bakar special with nasi kuning (RM 17) – came with plenty of those grilled beef that goes very well with their kerisik air assam dipping sauce. Those semi-transparent fatty pieces are known as harimau menagis, or “tiger’s cry”, they are the best especially if you enjoy fatty bits, full of flavor and absolutely delicious.

Drinks and rice are on unlimited refill too, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I would love to try this! Had the daging salai at one place here that claims to serve Malay food West Malaysian style, but masak lemak. I wonder if the meat is the same or not. This one looks like one of the ways by which we cooked wild boar.
