After completing the Merapoh Trail run at.. well, Merapoh. We headed back down to KL and took a stop at Raub for some brunch and ended up at one of the more popular spots in town – Tong Nam Bee kopitiam.
Finding Tong Nam Bee is pretty easy, the kopitiam is located right in town around the one and only one-way-street circle in Raub, and on weekends, appears to be quite a popular spots for big bikers (as you’ll see in photo above). Raub is just over 100km from KL via some lovely windy roads, making it an ideal pit stop for joy riders.
Anyway, the popular items at Tong Nam Bee would be their classic Malaysian breakfast of eggs, bread, and coffee. Being overly hungry after the run, we ordered both toast and steamed breads, a couple glasses of 3-layer tea, and chicken rice (a surprise!)
toast, steamed bread, with kaya and butter
The toast and steamed bread came with very aromatic home made kaya, and chunky slice of delicious butter. Texture of the bread were perfect and we gobbled them up rather quickly. Top notch.
The 3 layer tea (milk tea, coffee, gula melaka) were refreshing and perked us up pretty well as well.
As for the chicken rice, well, it turned out to be a surprisingly good find – properly flavored braised chicken with accompanying hard boiled eggs over steamed rice, accompanied by their pretty special homemade oily chili paste that’s pretty addictive too.
We left pretty satisfied for the journey back to KL for sure. Would revisit.

Charmaine: delicious!
I miss that braised chicken & those eggs, now that I am on a strict diet, staying off a lot of things! No kaya for me either – I’m off sugar. Sobsss!!!
suitaupui: that sounds tough but i’m sure there are many other choices available. 🙂
Ohlala, I like that generous slab of butter!
Choi Yen: yesss, the more the merrier!
Sounds like those carbs were well deserved.
Monica: oh most definitely.
It’s not usual to find braised chicken in chicken rice stalls here. Those shops that do braised stuff, they usually do it with pork. It looks yummy. ^_~
eatwhateatwhere: yaaa, braised chicken memang is a bit rare isn’t it.
That’s great place for yummy breakfast and i loved it and i will bookmark this wonderful place for my favourite visit to breakfast and thank you for sharing
rimayya: great!
