For someone who loves to eat and cook, I have to admit that I’ve gone far too long in my cooking “career” to not know what a good blender offers, until I get my hands on Tefal’s Ultrablend Boost Vacuum High Speed Blender BL985.

I used to think that the higher end blenders are just bigger and spins faster than the normal blenders I get from redeeming credit card points. Well, I guess it’s never too late to be learning about this almost ubiquitous kitchen appliance.

The BL985 is of course, bigger and spins faster, and as a result of the blade design and a full 1300 watt of spinning power, this machine produces a super fine blend that is very smooth, and it can do this very quickly.

hot and cold functions, preprogrammed

In addition, this Tefal blender also has some tricks up its sleeve – 10 different pre-programmed functions with 5 each for hot and cold functions, ability create vacuum, and even an auto clean function!

So yes, you can use this gadget to quickly whip up some juice/smoothie, but also able to cook proper soup with a touch of a button and resulting in restaurant quality soup.

cashew milk latte, I don't need no dairy
cashew milk latte, I don’t need no dairy

The first thing I did was trying out the multigrain milk function by making our own cashew milk

The recipe I came up with is fairly simple:

  • 50 grams of cashew
  • 500 ml water
  • run the multigrain milk program

For this, the glass jar for hot food is used. All I needed to do was put the ingredients, cover the lid, and start the program. It ran for 20 minutes, including blending and boiling.

The result was a cafe quality cashew milk that I then add a shot of espresso to make my own cashew latte, happiness.

the good fats – avocado smoothie, so smooth!

Coincidentally, we found some avocados on sale for RM 0.99 each at a local grocery store the other day, so what else but avocado smoothie, right?

This is for 2 pax

  • 2 whole avocados
  • 600 ml milk
  • 1 tray of ice
  • 5 tablespoon honey

Use the cold jar, click the milkshake function, and a minute later – proper avocado smoothie in the house! This actually turned out to be a meal replacement for us that day.

The third thing I tried with this powerhouse of a blender was perhaps the most basic of all, but one that I thought was a bit tricky and unachievable for “ordinary” blenders – juicing.

I experimented with the following recipe:

  • 1/4 watermelon, chunks
  • 3 stalks of celery, chop into chunks
  • 1/2 lemon (squeeze in)
  • 1 tray of ice

The vacuum and green smoothie function is used this time, taking a total time of around 2+ minutes. The vacuum function preserved the freshness of the fruits in preventing oxidation while blending, and those high speed blades resulted in a smooth and fine blend. A cold and refreshing juice with all the goodness of fruit fiber in a cup.

It’s safe to say after these initial trials, I’m well impressed with the Tefal Ultrablend Boost Vacuum High Speed Blender BL985, and I foresee to be using it quite often in the kitchen. If you’re looking for a proper blender, this is certainly one to check out. It can do everything you expect in a blender, and even some you may not have thought possible.

Tefal should be good. A household name when it comes to non-stick pans. I would never settle for less.

If I have this, I’ll be making fresh fruit juices a lot. From what you say “with all the fibre intact”, I’m assuming the pulp is not discarded, so the result is different from using a slow juicer?
