Since moving into this border of Shah Alam/Klang area, Taman Berkeley has been one of my favorite spots when hunger strikes. However, in the past six years, I’ve never once noticed this Bakery Cake House‘s existence until Jean read about it online and suggested we should check it out.
sign board must be from 40+ years ago
The reason of my apathy was soon clear, Bakery Cake House.. or “Warung Kek Bakery” has a sign board that’s probably not changed since it was opened for business some 44 years ago. Additionally, the shop front itself is often half closed, unmanned, and with pretty much nothing displayed.
So I guess they aren’t exactly interested in getting customers that hasn’t know about this place … oh well.
Stepping into the kitchen though, you’ll be greeted by a pair of old couple who prepare their goods in the old fashion way. They do offer quite a few selections of baked goods, including egg tarts, fruit tarts, coconut tarts (delicious, the only other stuff I tried), butter, marble, chocolate cakes, and more.
What we’re here for tho, was their famous cream puffs.
the cream puff is what we’re here for
The cream puffs (RM 0.70 each) come in a number of flavors, we tried their classic custard and chocolates fillings. The pastry was super light, and the fillings too not overly sweet (they’ve adjusted with the change of time apparently) either. Overall it worked really well and make for a great afternoon snack. If we didn’t finish all 10 right outside the shop, a cup of coffee would have gone really well with them!

I would prefer the original cream filling.
suituapui: actually me too!
It’s no wonder you’ve never noticed the place coz the signboard is too faded to see….lol. It’s a hidden gem, that’s why only their regulars know about it. I hope these old-school bakeries don’t fade away (as many old stalls/old taste normally do) and that there’s a next generation to take over and they continue to do it the same way it’s been done all these years.
eatwhateatwhere: haha yah this is not those purposefully made punya “hidden” place but became hidden over decades.
Finished 10 puffs right outside the shop, LOL
You should have bought another 10pcs for your afternoon tea.
Choi Yen: hahaha didn’t know it was so light! Initially wanted to share with friends… lol.
I will never say no to cream puff! Haha… grew up eating it when it was only 25cents each XD
I shall visit this old shop when I’m in Klang again.
CleverMunkey: wahhh 25 sen!
These look rustic and homemade – just the way I like them.
Monica: I believe they actually stay there so this time homemade is real!
Is it a halal bakery? Looks delicious btw. 😊
Min: it should indeed be.
