Rojak in Klang Valley is a term that is a bit confusing if you’re from Penang. For us, rojak is always a term reserved to that awesome street food with cut fruits in “rojak sauce” that’s made of prawn paste, sugar, lime, chili paste, and so on. Klang Valley folks call that “Penang rojak” or “rojak buah”, or fruit rojak.

The rojak in Klang Valley is called pasembur in Penang, a dish that has nothing to do with fruits altogether. The reason is probably same as the whole Hokkien mee vs Prawn mee debacle, who knows!?

Anyway, I’ll concede and accept that rojak is pasember here in Klang Valley, and today I want to bring to your attention of this pretty famous Rojak SS15, located at Subang Jaya, naturally, in SS15 where Taylors & Inti colleges are located.

I’ve heard of this place for quite a while now but never bothered to visit due to the fact that it was a stall at the roadside and always with a very long queue. Waiting under the hot sun for extended period of time was never something I enjoy.

Well, the rojak van is now a corner shop at Subang Square, just a stone’s throw from their old location. When we saw that the other day I thought it made perfect sense to pay a visit, which we did.

The old mentality of running a van is probably still deeply entranced here. The set up is very spartan, with 2 stalls – one for rojak, the other for cendol, both are basically self serviced counter and the shop served as a place you get to dine in, and maybe wash your hands on the basin. There were still flies everywhere, perhaps hygiene responsibility weren’t upgraded when they moved indoor…

Anyway, taste test got a thumbs up, the ingredients were fresh, crunchy sengkuang and juicy cucumber, with their peanut sauce that’s very flavorful even without being very spicy. I enjoyed their other deep fried crunchy bits too.

The cendol here, like most rojak van cendols, were “ok”, if not a bit lackluster, but we needed a drink so we did.

This place is worthy of tapao, dine in requires a bit of those Bear Grylls mentality.

The rojak looks delicious and tempting. Like you have said, this will be ideal for those who cannot take rojak that is too spicy right?

Good that you found where the rojak truck relocated to. Soooo, can you find me where the rojak truck in Uptown (in front of Texas Chicken) went? Lol. They upped and left, don’t know where…it’s my husband’s favourite rojak.

Me too, heard so much about this place but never visit. Go all the way from Kepong to Subang for rojak doesn’t really worthy, right? =.=”
