I can’t believe it took me so long for my first visit toΒ Betty’s Midwest Kitchen.

I spent 3.5 years of my life living in Midwest in my early 20s. 2.5 years in Minnesota, and another full year in Ohio, so the meal at Betty’s definitely brought back some memory, allowing me to rekindle with the tastes I was once so accustomed to.

We went to Betty’s on a Saturday for dinner without reservation, that was a mistake. The little restaurant was packed and we were the 7th group to be waiting for a table.

The host though, were true to Midwestern “niceness”, explained the situation to us, and asked us to wait patiently while taking our orders. So under the dim lights of the sidewalk, we inspected the menu and made our orders.

Some half an hour or so later, we were seated, and in 5 minutes, our food was served. The service was super efficient, that’s always a plus point.

Our orders were a pork burger (RM 12), 2 pork chops (RM 23), pork belly (RM 27.50), and 2 portions of pork ribs (RM 32.50 each). That was for 6 person, and yes, every dishes were of my favorite for-food animal. Lovely.

And the food were good! Real hearty American food. Properly grilled and deep fried, they are as original as you can get. The pork came in big chunk and were juicy too, it’s everything you want in a proper non-halal Western style dining without being pretentious.

If you want real American food that will clog your artery and make you one step closer to joining the Biggest Loser, this is definitely the place to go, they are so good. I will be there again, this time I’ll call for reservation go on weekdays! πŸ˜€

p/s: I think they don’t take reservations

  1. I went there last night to dine also. Their “dog food’ is damn yummy lah! πŸ˜€

    • Wendy: ah, i’ve heard a lot about the “dog food”, will try the next time πŸ˜€

  2. yeah the dog food is nice, but you have to eat it hot, and do NOT eat it alone. You have been warned.

they take reservations on weekdays but not on weekends.

  7. there is a RESTORAN 126 at the shoplot just before going down hill heading towards tropicana tunnel, they serve very good pork noodle / bittergourd pork noodle too, but only open from morning till 4pm, lunch time quite pack i usually go early.

  8. what is the dog food?

    • Haze: apparently french fries soaked in home made gravy and melted cheese! πŸ˜€

  9. Havent had the chance to try this yet. hmm aman suria.. let me google to see if they have any closer to KL city. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

  10. The food has German and Amercan influences. Germans use apple sauce on their food like potato pancakes. The pork chop with gravy looks like chicken fried steak.
I was in KL 3 weeks ago. I thought that the Chow Kway Teow in Taman Midah coffee shop was good. The shop sells chap fan and is facing a bunch of food stalls with roofs along the road. There is an overhead bridge near by. A fruit vendor is beside the bridge. Toyota dealership is across the road which is Cheras highway. Give is a try.

    • Meng: yea, that’s what midwestern food is about, and thanks for the tips on the CKT. πŸ˜‰

  11. ky, u should try nambawan at old klang road… good food!

I for one am not a fan of the dog food though. Like the others said you have to eat it REALLY FAST, it tastes horrible when it’s cold.

    • Huai Bin: yah to be frank I’m not so sure if I’d like the dog food, not a huge fan of overly cheesed

  14. try the boston butt, its basically pork shoulder marinated in beer batter and grilled off nicely. They execute this cut of pork with perfection here,

  15. wow! The food looks real good like you say, but was it REAL hearty and huge like the American sized portions?! πŸ˜€

  16. Yeah they can be so crowded at times. To the point that people spill over to the next few outlets sporting similar theme.

  17. the last time i came here there was a long queue and I gave up. So i didn’t get to try. Maybe next time!
