If you’ve noticed, Tesco Extra at Mutiara Damansara has got a brand new look lately. Since it’s opening years ago, it’s been one of my favorite hypermarkets. We paid a visit to grab some groceries last weekends.

The wall of Tesco Extra is now draped with tall glasses that not only gives it a modern look, but allows natural sun light to brighten up part of the interior. The side of the building now has alfresco dining areas set up on the re-tiled side walk, and with plenty of greeneries surrounding the area, it makes a great spot for winding down or to catch a relaxing meal after (or before) shopping.

Stepping into the mall from the parking lot, you’ll find quite a lot of restaurants. The familiar faces would be KFC, Chicken Rice Shop, King’s Confectionery, and Jom Bali; but there are also some new comers such as Gong Cha (one of my favorite bubble tea, try their winter melon tea!), T-Break Cafe, Kebab Turki, and more.

Making it convenient for shoppers, you’ll find the store map at various locations, and there are also price checkers and ATMs for when you need to withdraw some cash. In fact, there’s an RHB counter on location as well if ATM isn’t enough to service your needs.

sports, power tools, electrical items, and special promotion items too

When you get into Tesco hypermarket, the first thing you’d notice is the promotion aisle filled with products that are on big discounts at the moment. If you’ve been to Tesco you’d know they have a huge variety of everything.

Bicycle? yep, badminton and other sporting equipments? Check. Huge electrical department? That’s covered. If you’re into DIY, there’s a big power tools section as well.

Another thing to look for while at Tesco would be the Tesco brand products. These are products that often offers the best value for money you can get anywhere, and from my experience, offers quality as good as other brands.

We grabbed some frozen mochi, eggs, and fried chicken, all Tesco brand. Other than food, you’ll also find household products and many other Tesco brand items as well.

Moving to fresh produce section, you’ll find a very good selection of frozen and fresh seafood (including some life seafood). Love greens? Plenty of vegetables, herbs, and most everything you could find in a wet market.

When it comes to meat, you’ll also find both frozen and fresh beef, lamb, chicken, and more.

The other thing I like about Tesco is that they have plenty of check out counters. Even on a Sunday evening we didn’t need to wait in line. If you grab less than 10 items, use one of the many express check out counters.

And if you haven’t grabbed lunch from one of the many restaurants on the ground floor, there’s a food court right upstairs as well. Here you find local delights and hawker foods with friendly operators to boot.

That concludes a brief tour of Tesco Extra at Mutiara Damansara. Food, grocery, household products, and more, now with a fresh new look. Time for restocking your fridge yet?

Tesco supermarket sizes there are way bigger than here. Their own value products can be a hit and miss most times here.

    Hi KY,

Just a query, is this an honest review for Tesco, or they pay you to do the same?

Hoping for the former as the answer, since I have been following ur posts when it comes to reviews on foods and some other miscellaneous stuffs too.

Hi, Tesco Mutiara Damansara is my favorite “hangout”. I used to go there to stroll after 10pm as almost all malls are closed, though their fresh produce were not the freshest back then but I always came home with groceries I don’t need, I can’t stick to just window shopping at supermarkets :-s Since the reno, I’ve seen significant improvement on their fresh produce & well as cleanliness. The new look reminds me of Home Plus hypermarket in Korea (a Tesco) which incidentally was my favorite late night hang out in Korea, I was there often enough that the Home Plus jingle, which is the only song played in Home Plus, is still stuck in my head, thank goodness there is no silly jingle being played in Tesco Mutiara Damansara. I’m not surprised of the resemblance of Home Plus in Tesco here as read sometime back that the new Tesco Malaysia CEO is from Home Plus Korea.

ANon: OOo, i didn’t know they have it in Korea too. Yah, the new look is much improved and ya, the longer opening hours certainly help.
