For those who have had the privilege of joining one of these sessions, there’s a consensus:
You haven’t had BBQ until you had BBQ Addicts!
Today, you, my dear reader, gets to drool over these wonderful grilled food that we had at Michael and Lance’s place at Genting the very last day of 2010. You’ll also fint out how to get your hands on them, read on.

pork ribs, pigs in blanket, asparagus with bacon
Firstly, lets look at the first few dishes we had: baby back ribs, marinated to perfection, grilled over charcoal fire, le yums! Asparagus wrapped with bacon, and pigs in blanket, all piping hot and awesomely delicious.

BBQ Addicts – Grill Sergeant Lance
The super happy dude in windbreaker from early 90s, that is Grill Sergeant Lance, the uno supremo of BBQ-Addicts. Don’t let the windbreaker fools you, his BBQ outfit is complete with super short running pants and old school badminton jersey from the same era.
One thing for sure though, this dude is the best in the business when it comes to BBQ.

beef burger with bacon, rolling pin
At BBQ-Addicts, don’t expect to find boring old chicken wings, fish balls, or sausages you find from supermarket. Everything is of premium quality, like the home made burger pattie, sandwiched between buns that’re also grilled, add a piece of bacon in it, and viola – you get instant carb + heart attack material, but it tastes good.
Then there’s rolling pin – marinated chicken wrapped with streaky bacon that is then grilled (well, almost everything is grilled anyway) so that the pork fat seeps into the chicken to make it that much more tender and flavorful…. ah..!

watermelon salad, fren cut lamb, clam chowder, steak
There’s more, the french cut lamb is one of my favorites, and that big piece of steak over fire till medium rare, grilled mushroom with cheese and actually we did have some marinated chicken wings too.
Other than grilled food, these guys make some pretty fine watermelon salad (you gotta try it!), and seriously “life altering” clam chowder (that appears in xmas eve at Suanie’s post).

porkgang and more at BBQ Addict’s New Year Eve party
We had an awesome time at the little party that had way too much awesome food, good drinks, and glow sticks. It was a New Year Eve with many satisfied stomaches.

Most living rooms in Malaysia has a pretty similar set up. Here’s what’s front of my living room couch.

A pretty decent 40″ LCD TV, a PS3 we recently accidentally bought just cos they launched Grand Tourismo 5, a Wii that has served us well with many hours of Guitar Hero action, and an Astro B.yond box.
To be honest, I don’t watch a lot of TV. I have the Astro account mainly for sports and those learning/documentary channels (with occasional news.)

Minnesota Vikings, running back Adrian Peterson
The reason I don’t watch much TV is because I have a problem. A timing problem.
You see, some of my favorite sports shows on TV are played on the other side of the planet – USA.
The number one sports for me is NFL, check out the photo above with Minnesota Viking’s Adrian Peterson breaking a tackle. It is the ultimate team sports, with complex rules and crazy strategies and very different scoring system compared to other sports.
Astro usually plays the Monday Night game, which inconveniently also means that it falls on Tuesday morning in Malaysia, just the time I’m having coffee in front of the PC at office. I ended up missing a lot of games, and only watched one live Monday Night game with Vikings this season. I was on leave.
Live sports is all good, but sometimes I want to take away the “Live” part of it.

Man vs Wild – Bear Grylls
I’m also a Discovery Channel junkie, and one of my favorite shows has gotta be Man vs Wild. The photo above is Bear Grylls eating sashimi zebra (I probably won’t recommend you trying it). Each episod, this dude dropped at some god forsaken remote place, and his task is to get to civilization. He’s got a bottle of water, fire stone, knife, and whatever he’s wearing.
A show about survival skill, and loads of very interesting things this guy came up with to stay alive and get out of some pretty daunting situations. One episod he’s dropped in the middle of a dessert, another he’s at some jungle in Amazon, or some place in Iceland. Amazing stuff, watch it!
The problem is, the show is aired on 8:05 every Wednesday. That collides with dinner time…
I want to watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it. Take charge of my own TV, which is why I got myself the Astro PVR.
The good news is, you can have it too!
Astro is giving 10 reviewers one whole year’s worth of subscription for recording service and the Astro B.yond PVR set. Furthermore, the grand price winner gets a 3 day 2 night luxury trip for two to Sutera Habour at Kota Kinabalu. (I’ve been to the lobby of that resort and it was beaauuuutiful!)
To participate, the chosen bloggers just have to do the following
Of course, you also need an Astro account at home to qualify.
Judging is based on creativity, effort (number of posts/updates), and level of engagement (get your friends to comment!).
Sounds like a plan to me, what about you?
p/s: follow @astroonline on twitter and check out facebook.com/Astro too.
Here’s the video summarizing our experience at Hong Kong Disneyland, great for those who are too lazy to have read my “almost complete guide to HK Disneyland” post. The video is just a little over 6 minutes, broadband is highly recommended, and don’t gloat if you have Unifi!
Cheers!
Can’t wait for another holiday… gah.
Second day in 2011, and we went to Petaling Street for some old school goodies – the Hon Kee Famous Porridge. A hawker stall that has been in operation since 1959, when most of our parents are still licking lollies.

Hon Kee famous porridge at Petaling Street
We ordered a bowl of sang yu (raw fish, haruan) porridge, pork intestine porridge, a serving of yao cha kuai, and two iced herbal tea. There are only a few tables right outside the stall, but they do have plenty of seats just across the road right outside Hong Leong Bank.

pork intestine porridge & raw fish porridge
The pork intestine porridge had plenty of crunchy intestine and sliced tongue/etc, and served with some shredded ginger and chopped spring onion, yums! This is as good as they get, but I’d wish that they have coagulated pork blood though.
The raw fish porridge is served with the fish raw and on a separate plate. Adding them into the piping hot porridge cooks the fish almost instantly though, fresh and flavorful, it was actually very good – except for the tiny problem of getting too sweaty when it is hot like this afternoon.
The yao char kuai turned out to be good too. Always nice to have a bit of different texture.

Haze and KY at Petaling Street
There are always some misconception that food at this area is priced artificially high to slaughter them tourists, we paid RM 14+ for two bowls of porridge, two iced drinks, and a serving of yao char kuai, pretty good value for money if you ask me.
Another place for pork intestine porridge would be at Jalan Sayur’s hawker center, check out the porridge tag for more entries too.
