Mamak style rojak (also known as passember in the northern region) makes one of the best afternoon snacks.

For one, parking isn’t usually a problem since they are located at random street corners. Secondly, you get the great Malaysian al fresco ambiance. Finally, they also usually serve chendol, the perfect remedy for crazy hot max afternoons.

I’ve drove past this particular mamak rojak stall countless times, but this was actually the first time I’ve ever tried it. We ended up there when the rojak craving hits, and since it was already over 5pm, I know that my regular rojak stall at Taman Bahagia would be closed by then.

Like other similar operations, this stall sells rojak, rojak mee, mee rebus, chendol, and also ABC. We ordered a plate of rojak each and I added a bowl of chendol too.

Rojak and Chendol

The rojak came with the typical ingredients of sengkuang mengkuang, tofu, prawn fritters, and those other things with probably tamil names I never really knew. The sauce was flavorful, sweet, and not overly spicy (tho I’m sure you can ask for more chili). I actually like it better than the Taman Bahagia version, if only this one also comes cuttle fish…

As for the chendol, other than the typical green thingy and red beans, they added “leong fun” and a bit of sweet corn into the mix. I find it pretty interesting. Would prefer if they put more shaved ice instead though, the mamak version of chendol is always a bit too watery for me, was still pretty good nonetheless.

The 2 plates of rojak and chendol came up to less than RM 10, pretty decent deal for an afternoon quickie.

The Indian rojak at Jalan SS6 in Kelana Jaya is pretty good too. It’s nowhere near as clean as this one though.

I always eat here for my rojak fix coz so happens it’s nearby. As you said, nothing really fancy but the extra ingredients in the cendol makes it nicer. The rojak also feels lighter to eat than others, good for light snacks.

I am more acustomed to Subang’s SS15 Rojak. Maybe is because of the blardy snake like que that adds the quality to the rojak.

Cendol with Pulut is something to die for on any given sunday !

Is that part already Kelana Jaya? Thought it was still Taman Mayang. Yeah, its one of my favourite cendol stalls as well.

Ooo, with pulut is awesome, I agree, but with Tapai … now we’re talking 😛

    Mark,
It’s Taman Mayang, but isn’t it still a part of Kelana Jaya? The LRT station’s a stone’s throw away..

Huai Bin is right, I tried the SS6 one also. Richer flavor. Not that dirty la, by roadside standards. The flavor of the “liao” is more heavy. Feels more full but maybe can be “muak” too easily if you’re not that hungry.

My fav cendol so far is in jonker’s walk in Melaka…powdery soft and not overly sweet. I don’t know why the ice melts slowly, even in the hot coffeeshop. But it is an incredible cendol experience.

In Klang Valley, the ice is not finely shaved. In the old days, like 10 years ago, the one opposite Subang parade was real nice..don’t know whether it is still there.

KY, Have you tried the rojak in Kepong Baru? They are sharing the stall with the famous durian seller. You won’t miss it, always a long que. I think it is better than Taman Bahagia

The rojak sure looks good and yummy. Too bad it’s one of those food that I need to avoid at all cost at the moment.
