Have you had.. deep fried Lychee?

Files under Eats, PJ area, SS2 SS3 SS4 | Posted by KY

“Huh, what do you mean fried lychee?” was my reaction when I first heard about this concoction available at Ming Tien food court. Ginny was the person to ordered this, but at the time I haven’t bought my new and awesome Canon S90 yet, so I didn’t have decent night photos.

It was horng’s birthday last night, and after fetching him from KLIA (was tragic cos Jaclyn, Eric, Kerol, and I ended up at LCCT first), had a big dinner (more about that later), and a few sessions of Guitar Hero, Gareth, Kim, Horng, and I went over to Ming Tien past 2am for some light supper/dessert.

That is when I introduced them this unique dish. I ordered fried lychee and thought it’ll be a good time to try their fried pineapple too.

Basically the fried lychee is done the same way as pisang goreng (deep fried banana). Canned lychee dipped in batter, deep fried. It was so simple you’d wonder why it took so long for someone to come up with this.

The sweetness of lychee plus the piping hot batter is a weird but very good combination. The accompanying honey isn’t exactly required unless you  have really sweet tooth.

The fried pineapple was not bad, but pale in comparison with the lychee. Try it, only RM 5 per plate.

hahaha, that’s cool. basically you can deep-fry anything lah. but must drain off the water lah, if not the batter also soggy.

I patron Ming Tien quite often nowadays for supper during my graveyard shift. But fried lychee is quite not suitable as a food during my lunch time lol
