It’s out, and I now got not one, but two units of Blackberry Curve 8520 with me from the xBerry launch party last Saturday at Republic, Sunway Pyramid.

I got the phone from the one-day only deal at RM 888 + RM 50 xpax reload + RM 8.50 for a celcom prepaid number. Total damage = RM 945.60.

brisk business at the launch party, check out the giant 8520

I got the extra unit for a colleague who didn’t want to miss out the deal but couldn’t make it to the party. There were hundreds of people at the event and within a couple hours, half of the 500 allocated units of Curve were already gone.

The phone is now RRP at RM 1188, still a pretty good deal since it’s completely unlock and you’re not tied down with any contract.

Now I’m just waiting for everyone to get their BB services activated so we can have BBM orgies! That’s you Cheesie and Cindy!

Got the Curve 8520 already!

Yah, similar now, but E71 I think actually slightly better build quality. BB though has some unique functionalities the E71 doesn’t.

Blackberry Curve 8520 has no 3G, RM1188 can be better spent buying a non Blackberry phone with 3G and etc.

it’s still better to use Blackberry with postpaid plan rather than prepaid because it’s cheaper in the long run.

    that’s my 2 cents.

    MaN|acZ,
I think they reduced the price to RM998 instead of RM 1188. 3G is nice but currently I find mobile data is usually sufficient on 2.5G (I switched 3G off on my BB Bold to conserve battery life). As to postpaid vs prepaid, if you’re on 2.5G prepaid actually works out to be slightly cheaper. RM98/month vs RM 2.50 x 30 days

    ky,

I think I noticed about the RM2.50 x 30 days is cheaper than RM98/month.But still, if only Blackberry were cheaper probably within the RM400-500 range, I think that should be affordable then.If more people take up Blackberry, our phone bills will be cheaper than because most people will be using their data plan to communicate (eg. MSN, YM,etc.).

How many phones do you own anyway?

It’s at that price range for corporate customer with 2 yr contract, I believe.

yea. I seen that plan. But, the penalty for canceling the contract is a bit heavy tho.It also not worth it to pay more for higher data plan when you can’t even used up to RM68/month.

Oh well, for every price point, there’ll be people who says cutting it another 50% will be good. :S

well.. not everyone is so darn rich. besides if everyone is on data plan and communicate solely on data plan, it’ll be bad for Celcom. Probably the high price point is trying to retain certain range / category to continue using voice data plan.

well the price of actual hardware they have to pay RIM should be considered too, it’s not like there’s no cost to it. 🙂
