One of the most often asked questions I get is “How the hell are you being still skinny when you are having all these food all the time!?” with a sometimes not overly friendly tone. Well, I live a reasonably active lifestyle.
To stay reasonably healthy and not let the excess calories pile up around the midsection, I exercise regularly. In addition to my regular badminton, futsal, and ping pong regime on a weekly basis, I have recently trying to pick up golf with my housemate and best buddy Horng at the driving range.
Horng and I whacking some balls
As it turns out, golfing is a lot harder than it seems. This is my 4th session at the driving range and has changed the way I swing the club as many times from pointers given by others and our observations of other experienced players. Still I get less than half the balls flying properly.
Last night we went to the driving range at Sunway again, and when Amanda called up for a yumcha session we asked her to join us instead. The good thing about this place is that food and drinks are available, and the whole session is actually no different from going out at mamak, except you get to exercise in between drinks and snacks. Killing two birds with a golf ball, pretty nifty.
check out the video with me and Amanda Ang miss hitting the ball
The first time I went to the driving range I ended up with sore back, thighs, and arm. Who says golf isn’t proper exercise? I think I’m gonna do this on a regular basis, and hopefully we’d improve enough to go to the course in a few month’s time.

I’m also heading to Singapore for the vPost-Nuffnang Christmas Party with a bunch of Nuffnang gang and bloggers. My second visit to Singapore this month! See you there if you’re attending it too!
Golfing is indeed a healthy lifestyle, and also a great way to socialize!
While not many in playing in Malaysia, I’m sure with this entry, many would try out golfing at this place! KY introduced a golfing range with snacks some more hehehe
Cheers KY!
haha.. now i know your secret liao. got exercise one. I was also one of these people who wonder why are you so fit even you gallops and wallap everything in your stomach and yet so fit and toned?? ๐
Expensive or not? Haha
So KY not only makan, he also senam. Good, good. That’s a very gaya shot of you!
not bad.. with a rigorous exercise regime..such a balanced lifestyle ..ahem.. ;p
oih. i also wanna practice golf. call me up kays. tata
Make sure you caddy your own bag and forgo the cart – that’s how people make it a real sport…
hey KY! I saw you at the party! I wasnt sure it was you though! ๐
People always say that Golf is for the uncles, but it really is quite fun and satisfying. A few tips I swear by whenever I play.
Try bending your knees a little more and always keep your head down for as long as you can and always finish with a good finish to the swing. Keeping your head down helps to reduce ball topping.
Hope to see you on the course soon!
desmond-t,
Going to driving range for the purpose of food review would be a bit weird wouldn’t it? haha
clement,
Hahah, everything comes as a price ๐
shaoweii,
RM 10 for 100 balls, pretty reasonable if you ask me. ๐
Alice Teh,
OoOo thank you. ๐
thenomadGourmand,

Chriso,
“practise”? Seems like you did it before? o.O
Suertes,
I think going to the real golf course is still some time away. hehe
Ju Ann,
Why never say hi! ๐
carpetburn,
Thanks for the tips! ๐
dude, unless u can really drive, dont go to the greens . . . .i did that with only 3 times no lesson but guided by friends and its a disaster on green.
Dam embarassing man – 153 strokes . . hehehehe only +81 stroke . . . .lolz
foodcrazee,
Hahaha that’s very tragic, I’m not gonna try the same. ๐
omg. you finally taking up golf!? few tips.
1. take the video from SIDE and FRONT square to the body. its easier to see ur swing and make correction. both urs and amanda’s are at an angle hard to do play back correction.
2. ur right leg appears to be further back than left. meaning u may not be squaring ur feet, unless ur coach ask u do so, but that stance is for some other reasons.
3. ur legs are too stiff and looks like posture bit too high not bent enuff to accomodate the club angle, that limits ur flexibility and cause unneccssary muscle pain
4. because of 3, maybe causes ur body to lift up to complete ur upswing, which is obvious when u see ur own head had big movement, same as amanda’s
5. for beginer, the club seems too long for amenda, the ball position may be wrong too, can use P or 7,8,9. less movement.
6. combining 3,4,5, u cant return the club head from set up – upswing – downswing towards the ball , i.e. the whole swing at the end didnt go back where it begins. this is obvious when u can see both KY and Amenda’s left feet lifted up and moved towards ur right side.
fix one by one, try limit movement of the HEAD through out the swing, which indicates ur kayu will go back to the same posiion to hit the ball after lifted up.
then keep ur left FEET always flat to the ground, once it lifts up, indicates u are not flexing ur knee, but flexing the whole body, making the swing out of “phase”
– u owe me 2 beer.
aeroplane1234,
Very pro comment, I shall learn from this. thanks. ๐
