I recently got to know of this place since my house mate’s has her office moved to the area. Apparently Restaurant Meng Kee Char Siew (明记叉烧王) is already a pretty famous place, endorsed by TV shows such as Ho Chak from 8TV, and reviewed by many other food blogs too. I guess it was my turn to give it a try, and I did just that with the Goh sometimes last week.

kopitiam set up; the satisfied Goh
One thing about eating with Goh is that you can always be sure that the guy will over order. Restrain is not a word fond by the big dude. Hence, for the two of us, we ordered a healthy portion of char siew, a decent portion of chicken, a plate of vegetable, and a rather sinful dish of chicken liver and stomach. Of course, 2 plates of rice and soup came with all these.

yes, it was only for the two of us
While the chicken meat was pretty decent, and the innards rather rich. The char siew was really one of the best I’ve had. The taste and texture were spot on, slightly sweet but very flavorful. If only we can have this and the famous Pudu Siew Yoke (烧肉) at the same time and same place. ahh….

the restaurant is close to the Shah Alam stadium
At the end, it was a RM23 well spent on a pretty satisfying lunch. Of course, it wouldn’t be as expensive if you don’t order like a Goh.

Following our sumptuous dinner at Lucky Loke with the garlic fish and asam prawn, we decided to head for some dessert that we deserved, especially since Kim wasn’t with us. We decided to head to Food Foundry at Seksyen 17 for some Mille Crepe.

how do you resist something like this?
For the uninitiated, Mille Crepe is a French dessert, basically made by many layers of very thin cooked pancake. There are some custards and other flavorings in between the layers, usually presented in slices, kinda like Cheesecake. Mille literally means a thousand, but in this case, there were 20 layers of crepe that made up this dessert.
Despite just having had a heavy meal, we ordered 3 pieces of this wholesome stuff, Vanilla, Chocolate Orange, and Strawberry & Cream.

this one’s for you, Kim.
Of the three flavors, my favorite was plain old Vanilla, the texture of 20 layers of crepe with the taste of fresh custard and the vanilla flavor, very luxurious. It’s easily one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, and put Cheesecakes on a completely different scale altogether. With Mille Crepe, you don’t get the annoying “stick to the roof of your mouth” feeling as you would with the latter. The Chocolate Orange was very good too, as with the Strawberry & Cream flavors, but I thought they could have slightly stronger Strawberry taste to it though. We finished everything rather quickly while almost bursting our guts in the process.
The dessert costs RM8 to RM9 per piece, but it was seriously good and any dessert lovers should not call themselves dessert lovers if they haven’t give this a try. It was a pity Kim had to miss it.

Food Foundry is located at Seksyen 17
This restaurant is located at the same block as 6 to 10 grill, other than Mille Crepe, they serve some western style as well as local cuisine and desserts.

Lucky Loke tai chau (大炒) stall is situated just a stone’s throw away from where I live, and naturally I have been there on quite a number of occasions. However, due to the poor quality of pictures taken on previous visits, I have not had the chance to post about this place until now.

glorious garlic fish, not to be missed
Lucky Loke is quite an established tai chau place, always the busiest among the 3 places that are around the same area. We decided to have some decent dinner there after coming back from a rather enjoyable karting session last Saturday.
But first, allow me to digress a bit:

sorry kim, you missed the dinner
Anyway, for the 3 of us, we ordered the must-eat signature dish that is the garlic fish (siakap), asam prawn, and a plate of Hong Kong kailan. Naturally, we have white rice to go with these dishes.

garlic fish, HK kailan, and asam prawn
The garlic fish was excellent as usual. Served with plenty of raw garlic and chili padi on top of the deep fried fish with their special sauce (tasted like fish sauce with some vinegar and other ingredients), the texture of the fish and the taste was just right. Having it deep fried also mean that we didn’t have to worry too much on the bones.
The asam prawn was surprisingly good too, the asam base was very thick and flavorful. There’s garlic, egg plant, and tomato as garnish to the main item, the big size tiger prawns. It was just as good as the one served at restaurant Hoowan at Kelana Jaya. The Hong Kong kailan tasted a bit old this time, but it was still alright.

Lucky Loke is at Restaurant Kean Fatt
The dinner costs about RM 17 for each of us, not the most economical meal there is, but we are still plenty satisfied, it was just so good. Lucky Loke is also famous for their pork rib (phai kuat wong, 排骨王), you should give it a try if you haven’t yet.
Lucky Loke is located at Restaurant Kean Fatt, just directly behind the Taman Bahagia LRT station in SS3. The same restaurant also serves the famous pork noodle for breakfast and lunch.

I’m sure most of us have friends whom we never had the chance to meet up and share a cup of coffee over the friendly mamak stalls despite knowing each other for years.

becki, myself, and danny
A little while ago I had the chance to finally meet Becki, a gal from Sydney that I got to know through IRC (yes, it still exist!) since way back, a time when the World Trade Center were still standing, computers weren’t infected by adware, and the term ‘blog’ wasn’t invented yet.
It was unfortunate that I had to go to Vietnam the very next day after Becki and Danny arrived. I apologize for not being a host for their entire length of stay in KL.

was nice meeting you guys!
In the short few hours I got to play host to Becki and the boyfriend Danny, we went to Petaling Street and had some chicken jerky, Hong Kee clay pot chicken rice for dinner, walked the perpetual pasar malam of Petaling Street, and had a drink at Traders Hotel poolside bar (very nice hangout place). We also managed to sneaked in a Ramli burger for the couple right after dinner. Something that was very well received.
If you’re reading this, it was nice meeting you after so long. I hope I was a half decent host, and spend me nice dinners when I go to Sydney ok?
Cheers!
