Question 1: Mouse that stands on two feet?
Now lets see if you can get the next one. Duck that stands on two feet?

As I was doing the regular filter flush out in the morning over the weekend for the Koi Pond, the tap for the 3rd flush out tap busted. Luckily the knob was in the “closed” position when that happened, no panic.

the busted tap, fixed
I happened to have a spare tap on hand, however, the PVC glue that was used from the project has ran dry, so a trip to the hardware store was inevitable. I also bought a tube of silicon sealant to better seal the connection between the PVC pipe adapter and the fiberglass filter. The actual fixing didn’t take more than half an hour.

the material used
I took the opportunity to clean the filter too. While waiting for the PVC and silicon sealant to dry, I had to transfer the filter material to the spare fiberglass tank (the same one we used for the chap gor meh boat rowing.) This is essential as the filter material contains living micro organism whose job is to breakdown the harmful organic waste produced by the fish, without the bacteria, the water will quickly turn toxic. An airpump was used to airate the filter material.

dry waterfall and temporary filter material housing
For several hours, the waterfall was dry. By nightfall, the filter material was moved back to the fiberglass filter, and everything restored back to order. Happy fishes again =)
Lacking satellite TV service at home, whenever there is a big football match, we usually head to KAYU at SS2 to catch the game as they have some half a dozen 42″ plasma TVs in the restaurant. That aside, they also serve some of the better mamak food around the area, like the excellent roti tissue.

how the roti tissue made and served
The roti tissue is made from a larger roti dough and spread paper thin. I don’t really know how they manage to get it done, but somehow at the crucial moment just before the roti gets burnt, they haul it up, manipulate it to a cone shape, and pour some condensed milk and honey/syrup while letting the roti harden. The result is a pretty impressive 3 feet tall roti tissue.

ah.. yumm
As far as taste goes, this snack is pretty sweet, and yet addictively tastey, best consumed when it’s still warm and crispy. When the ultra thin roti laced with sugar just melts in your mouth with the hint of condense milk, oh… It is one of my favorite things to order as a side dish where 2-4 person can share some extra 1000 calorie, best.

this map is pretty sweet, isn’t it?
Other than roti tissue, they serve very good nasi kandar (very spicy) and naan sets too (RM 10.50 for cheese naan & tandoori chicken.) Though the food might be on the high end of price scale when it comes to mamak offering, the food is good, the environment is pretty clean, and the place is air conditioned with some huge TVs. I guess it’s worth it.
Other than SS2, KAYU has outlets at Tesco @ Damansara, Subang SS15, Penang, and many other places, including one branch at Melbourne! I think they’re challenging McD, Malaysia boleh!

So the suan felt hungry and wanted to go to Talipon, since she don’t really care about other options, we went there. Talipon is a steamboat and grill place with the buffet concept, the typical eat all you can, but will charge you extra if you are wasteful. You get a 2 in 1 grill + steamboat set up, with a choice of clear or tomyam soup.

can you see FA & Val, or did suan take up too many pixels?
It was ages since I last went to this particular restaurant despite the close proximity, I guess the slowness of shrimp serving on the last visit played a part in that (as in, the owner took her time to top up the shrimps on the buffet line, leaving that tray empty 85% of the time). Luckily, no such problem this time, I guess they figured out that wasn’t a good business tactic.

the selection
The selection of food at Talipon isn’t too bad. You have several types of meat such chicken, beef, and mutton. There are also shrimp, flower crab, squid, and several types of shell fish on the seafood side. As with every other DIY type of buffet, there’s a huge variety of fishball taste alike items too. Then you have vege, tofu, eggs, fruits, some local kuih for dessert, and even Vanilla ice cream. Not a bad selection for around RM 18 per person, drinks not included though.

Bestnya the chilli shrimp.. yum
Now, the best thing about eating at Talipon is the chilli prawn invented by yours truely a couple years back. It goes a little like this (refer to accompanying photos above):

While having brunch at one of the outlets opposite the SS2 foodcourt last weekend, I spotted a couple local stunt men trying to put up a banner. Look at how the tactic they improvised…

The two jokers
Apperantly an older dude pushed the younger lad in a herculean effort so that the latter can reach the summit of the electric pole to tie up that “Happy Mother’s Day” banner. I must say the display of strength and agility was pretty impressive.

A closer look
However, this image reminds me of what I saw many years ago in Penang (incidentally, horny saw the same thing.) A monkey tried to scale the electric poles via the power lines, but unfortunately as the hands went for the neutral and legs the life bare lines, what was left was a roasted monkey. Lucky the stunt men at SS2 weren’t met with the same fate.
