KY saw - Horny Bee

Files under Saw | 19 Comments

New species of bee discovered by yours truely. Do not afraid, this bee does not stink sting, heck, there isn’t any gathering of honey nor does it produce beeswax to build honeycomb. The sample was spotted at my residence right before a particular company dinner…..

Horny Bee

Abit scary isn’t it? It was horny’s company dinner and everyone needed to wear a hat. All he got was this honey bee hat, so I figured I make him some wings using coat hangers for the whole package, we even found a fake flower to go with the not so genuine bee. But after all these efforts, the dude didn’t have the balls to carry his wings into the ballroom. So no, he didn’t get the best costume prize.

What a let down, but my fashion prowess is not to be taken lightly. Thank you very much

KY eats - Yang Mooi Beef Noodle at Pandan Indah, Cheras

So I was at Cheras fixing my car and decided to call up Kim the cun up for lunch. After seeing that her favorite restaurant was not opened for business, we decided to venture into this Yang Mooi restuarant for the beef noodle. Apperantly it was also the first time the narcissist dine here.

Beef Noodle at Pandan Indah, Cheras

We ordered dried mixed beef noodle for lunch. The noodle came with some vege and ground beef on top and some dark souce at the bottom, it was finer than the usual noodle you get from wantan mee, which was very nice as they tend to soak up more sauce due to the smaller diameter.

The soup is served seperately with 2 beef balls, tripes, meat, and tendon. The beef balls were very good. Tripes and tendon were well cooked and awesome. The meat was commendable too. The soup might come to some as slightly salty, but goes pretty well with the noodle. To top it all, the chilli sauce was done just right, spicey but with the fresh chilli aroma.

Beef Noodle at Pandan Indah, Cheras

I am not capable to draw up a map of Cheras. This particular shop is just directly opposite the Pandan Indah police station, and is nearby the famous dating place, the “mini Genting”. If you want directions, go ask Kim.

KY eats - Seafood at KK, Sabah

Files under Eats | 7 Comments

For work, sometimes I do venture into different places, and not too long ago I went to Kota Kinabalu of Sabah. Situated by the South East China sea, KK is famous for it’s sea harvest, and I was eating just that.

Kota Kinabalu Port View Seafood Restaurant

We went to this TSH (Tourist Slaughter House, according to my friend Broad Ben) named Port View Seafood Restaurant. It’s situated right next to the Phillipino market and diagonally opposite Promenade Hotel. If you’re at KK, you can’t miss the place.

Set up like a proper tourist attraction, they have the traditional Kadazan bamboo dance and everything, and you get a chance to participate too. It was funny looking at some not-so-slim middle age guys full of sweat, trying to negotiate the ever elusive bamboo sticks with their legs.

Kota Kinabalu Port View Seafood Restaurant

The nice thing about this place is that you are pretty much sure that they serve you everything fresh. At the entrance is where you place your order, literally picking your dinner from the rows of aquariums. They have a wide variety of fish, clam, prawn, lobster, crab, and many other creatures I can’t name. The price is written by each tank to conviniently let you budget your meal.

Kota Kinabalu Port View Seafood Restaurant

We ordered some big clams, bamboo clams, wet butter prawn, deep fried soft shell crab, and vegetables. The fresh seafood definately filled my stomach pretty satisfyingly. Price wise, it is pretty comparable to KL as this isn’t a budget outlet.

The locals will tell you there are better and cheaper seafood restaurants in KK, which, having been to another establishment in god know wheres at KK, I agree. However, if you want to be treated like a tourist or if you have company allowance to spend, this isn’t a bad place at all. It’s clean, the food is good, service is commentable, and there’s this whole cultural show going on at the same time.

KY eats - Penang Pork Intestine Porridge

Files under Eats, Hawkers, Penang | 8 Comments

Well, the name pork intestine porridge is a little misleading, but that’s just how it’s called in Hokkien. The ingredient includes not only boiled pork intestine, but also roasted pork (char siew), and deep fried crispy pork intestine. Sounds yummy isn’t it? Definately not for the faint hearted, then again it’s not really fear factor material.

pork intestine porridge in new lane, Penang

For the best of this rare dish, you have to go to New Lane in Penang. The porridge is well cooked till individual grains are not visible, together with the main ingredients described above, some spring onion and a dash of white pepper is added. The boiled intestine is not overly soft nor too chewy, and the roasted pork was pretty good. However, the real gem is the deep fried crispy intestine, it is crunchy and carries a taste I can only described as a cross between bacon, dried pork, and deep fried pork fat. Basically all the good stuff.

So, next time when you go to Penang, remember that there are more than just laksa and char kuih teow.

Here’s how you get there, foo!

KY saw - NTV7 Shooting with Serena C & Rudy at TGIF Curve

Files under Saw | 34 Comments

TGI Friday's at the Curve with Rudy and Serena C

So, sometime early last month suanie told us about this shooting thing at the Curve’s TGIF and had asked a few of us to go there for dinner. Horny, Paul, and myself did just that. You might have seen the show being aired on NTV7 the week before last x’mas, hosted by Serena C with Rudy from Hitz as a special guest, or something like that. The show goes “welcome to TGI friday where everyday is a friday… bla bla”

At first I had thought we would just be eating there while they have the shooting. Turned out, we were asked to sit on the very first table right in front of the “stage”. Hence, as reluctant participants, we had to act along the show, claps when we were asked to, not eat when we’re not supposed to. Worse of all, forced to laugh at Rudy’s lame top 10 x’mas gift list, which we didn’t really manage to do a good job at.

Overall it made a pretty bad dinner experience. We weren’t able to get served properly when the shooting was on, and we never get to enjoy our food in peace as we had to act along. Best of all, we had to pay for every single shit we ordered while the boss of that place was laughing all the way at us being such suckers. Yes, the boss was there sitting at another table. No, we weren’t even offered a free drink.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, do not go there. Go play with this crush calculator instead.
